Her book L'Ombre d'Imana emerged from her time in Rwanda. In 1998, she participated in the project "Rwanda: Ecrire par devoir de mémoire" (Rwanda: Writing for the sake of memory) with a group of African writers who traveled to Rwanda to testify to the Rwandan genocide and its aftermath. She subsequently became a lecturer in the English department at the University of Abidjan until 1993. In 1979, Tadjo chose to teach English at the Lycée Moderne de Korhogo (secondary school) in the North of Côte d'Ivoire. In 1983, she went to Howard University in Washington, D.C., on a Fulbright research scholarship. Tadjo completed her BA degree at the University of Abidjan and her doctorate at the Sorbonne in African-American Literature and Civilization. Brought up in Abidjan, she travelled widely with her family. She has written and illustrated several books for young people.Born in Paris, Véronique Tadjo is the daughter of an Ivorian civil servant and a French painter and sculptor. Veronique was a judge for The Caine Prize for African writing in 20 and has also been a facilitator in its writing workshops. Red Earth/Laterite, Poetry (Eastern Washington University Press 2006).

She has travelled extensively and is currently based in South Africa. She was a lecturer at the English department of the University of Abidjan until 1993 when she took up writing full time. She went to Howard University on a Fulbright scholarship. She did most of her studies in Abidjan and went on to earn a doctorate from the Sorbonne, Paris, in African American studies. Véronique Tadjo is a writer and painter from Côte d'Ivoire. Mentor on the project, working with participants in South Africa
